The first Deputy of the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Aristarkhov announced that the Agency has considered the initiative to establish in Russia a Day of patriotism “worthy of attention”. This is stated in the letter addressed to the Chairman of the Duma Committee on defense Vladimir Shamanov. Aristarkhov also drew attention to possible financial constraints on the part of the budget of the country and indicated the need for further discussion of the initiative:

“The mentioned issue shall be considered as a subject to wide public comment and conduct a historical and chronological assessment of the Russian Academy of Sciences”

What’s the idea of a holiday?

The proposal to declare August, 6th as a Day of patriotism was sent in the state Duma on 14 November 2016. The author – Rahman Anshukov, President of the Association of entrepreneurs for the development of the business patriotism, “Avanti” – not only prepared the draft of the law, but also amounted to an explanatory note to justify the need for the establishment of the feast.

Rahman Anukov
Rahman Anshukov

It states that the introduction of anti-russian sanctions, the purpose of which was the violation of the economic stability of the country, has had the opposite effect. The policy of import substitution was very effective countermeasure, to unite the citizens of Russia in the struggle for economic independence, “which was a real expression of patriotism in difficult conditions of constant political and economic pressure”.

The main role in the fight against sanctions, according to Anshukov, was played by the RF presidential decree dated 6 August 2014 “On application of certain special economic measures to ensure security of the Russian Federation”. Thanks to him, “business patriots” found the strength to move forward and to resist anti-russian policy of the West:

“The Establishment of a new memorable date August 6, the anniversary of the adoption of the decree of the President of Russia, will perpetuate the manifestation of unity within the country, which helped to meet the internal growth external pressure”

Reactions

Even at the time of making proposal to establish a Day of patriotism this holiday has undergone massive criticism. Internet users have used all your sense of humor in order to beat as the title of the new “Victory day” and the purpose of its introduction:

твит1
This victory day smells like palm oil (re-write of russian song, can’t be translated)
Patriotic Day is too much though. But we can call it whether Galore Day or Healthy food Day (cabbage, turnip, whatever else is russian)
Vitaly Milonov
Vitaly Milonov

In the state Duma, however, the initiative met no resistance. Deputy Vitaly Milonov has fully supported the idea of establishing a day of patriotism, noticing that mark it is possible and without the usual foreign products:

“It used to be Australian, new Zealand, Argentinian meat, but not now. Only Voronezh, Bryansk only. Indeed, the quality is very decent”

“Patriotism Day” in other countries

The only country in which there is a public holiday with the word “patriotism” in the name, is United States. One of his first decrees Donald Trump announced the day of his inauguration – January 20 – as National day of patriotism. Special piquancy of the situation makes that in the USA even before Trump, there were two public holiday with a similar name: Patriot’s Day is celebrated on 11th November across the country in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack of 2001 and Patriot Day – April 19 in the States of Massachusetts, Wisconsin and Maine commemorating the first battles of the war of independence.

Vasily Abashkin, senior expert, candidate of economic Sciences, HSE

“I think, to maintain national unity just one occasion. August 6, in my opinion, the date is artificial, opportunistic and politicized that nothing, no one, apart from some individuals, not associated.

Besides, if it be considered as a geopolitical response to Trump, as a flawed attempt. No value added, that is good, I do not see this”

“In these permutations has no great political sense. Rotation of governors is slowly. If will be replaced by three governors, three months, twelve new governors per year. So, the governors will change every eight years. This is a normal routine work. Looking at the figures. Who is worse who is better.

If to speak about the role of governors in Russian politics, from the Federal point of view, it is minimal, we still have centralized power. At the same time at their level, the governors have a very strong influence on the lives of ordinary people — for example, the transfer of St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg sanctioned personally Poltavchenko.

as for the rumors of impending reshuffle of the governors of Karelia, Novgorod, Ryazan and other areas, they are quite real. These regions are in distress. However, it is a natural process”.

Governor of Novgorod region Sergey Mitin, 13 Feb announced early termination of powers, reports “Interfax”. He also refused to participate in elections in 2017.

Russian Academy of Sciences has recognized homeopathy pseudoscience

[epapop id=’3958′]

What happened?

The Commission to combat pseudoscience and falsification of scientific research of the RAS Presidium made a statement that homeopathy has no scientific basis, and homeopathic remedies useless to human health. The Commission noted the harm of homeopathy, because instead of treating the traditional methods people buy diluted drugs, which can lead to complications of the disease or death. In his Memorandum, the authors give some advice to the Ministry of health and the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) regarding homeopathy and homeopathic remedies. In particular, experts from the Commission of the RAS insist that the Ministry of health should withdraw from the market homeopathic medicines in public health facilities, and the FAS should deal with the false advertising of homeopathy, which misleads buyers. Despite the fact that the recommendations in the document is not binding, the FAS has supported the Memorandum.

What is homeopathy?
Hahnemann, Christian Friedrich Samuel
Hahnemann, Christian Friedrich Samuel

Homeopathy a form of alternative medicine that involves using highly diluted medicines. The basis of homeopathy is the theory of a German doctor H. C. F. Hahnemann. He believed that large doses of medication that causes the same symptoms as the disease that can harm humans. So Hahnemann in the treatment used highly diluted drugs which, in the opinion of a German doctor, retained their healing properties.

Homeopathy in Russia

In Russia doctors-homeopaths began to appear in the nineteenth century. By the mid-nineteenth century homeopathy has achieved wide distribution throughout the Russian Empire, were translated foreign works on homeopathy, as well as opened the first homeopathic pharmacy.

In the USSR, homeopathy has been condemned by scholars who identified the healing properties of homeopathic remedies. Therefore, in 1968 he published an order prohibiting the to teach homeopathy to publish books on homeopathy and use homeopathic remedies.

Only after the collapse of the Soviet Union homeopathy has once again become available to citizens and was resolved at the legislative level.

What preceded the Memorandum of wounds
Asya Kazantseva
Asya Kazantseva

In October 2016 in the magazine “Around the world” was published the article “Dissolved magic.” Author Asya Kazantsev noted that homeopathy does not carry any benefit for human health and is completely useless academic discipline. “National Council for homeopathy” submitted to the journal to court. The members of the society demanded refutation of the article ASI Kuznetsova, but the court rejected their claim.

In January 2017 the students of the First Moscow state medical University named after Sechenov published the petition, which asked the Minister of health of Russia Veronika Skvortsova be excluded from the curriculum of the discipline “fundamentals of homeopathy.” According to students, the subject discreditied the strongest University in the country, and introduces students astray.

The Commission to combat pseudoscience and falsification of scientific research of the RAS Presidium is working to identify pseudoscience and pseudoscientific publications, which discrediting the scientific community. The Committee consists of doctors of Sciences, academicians and corresponding members of Russian Academy of Sciences. In addition to the Memorandum of homeopathy on the website, you can find another Memorandum about Dermatoglyphic test (determination of person’s predisposition to set of diseases on fingerprints), which refers to the lack of scientific evidence behind this method.

“No proven effects of homeopathic preparations on the basis of these studies, therefore, to understand and accept the possibility of the use of homeopathic globules, besides placebo, you can’t. If you say that homeopathy runs some processes in the body that we need any incentive, financial media, his in homeopathy is not. As for the reaction of the Ministry of health, the initiative for the ban, obviously, is impractical, and a more broad and reasoned public awareness, physicians are not emotionally, but factually it will be useful! And once again need to revise all the lessons learned, including the international”.

“Homeopathy is a pseudoscience: it not only gives noticeable effects, she still cannot give a definition. And now poor people and the rich spend a lot of money on homeopathy. One of the reasons that homeopathy is ideologically successful project: it offers some theoretical scheme, which can be read, to understand, and for people not familiar with science, it all looks very convincing. So people are buying it and give their money. I think homeopathy as a healing option can exist for very long. Big trouble in this, let there be the same as now continue to be other types of magic.”

In addition, he was on the first line on financial-economic indicators. Total monitoring of the Ministry of education takes into account 70 criteria.

At the moment the leadership of the European University challenges the decision of the service’s revocation of a license in the Moscow Arbitration court. The court plans to consider the appeal in February 2017.

Recall that the University lost its license for late certification of employees and a shortage of teachers in the faculties of political science and sociology.

What had gone before

Check at the European University started as the result of complaints Vitaly Milonov in the U.S. attorney’s office in July 2016. They talked about the lack in an educational institution infirmary, illegal remodeling of the building, and grants in foreign currency. The University called the complaint about. Monitoring the effectiveness of universities

The Ministry of education and science carries out monitoring of the national universities 2012 by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation. The reason was low quality of education mainly in private schools. The results of monitoring underperforming schools Rosobrnadzor checks, which confirms or denies this information. The University has 9 months to improve the performance, in the event of default provisions of his reorganize or close.

Small Europe

European University in Saint-Petersburg was founded in 1994. It is one of the most famous and prestigious Russian universities and was created in contrast to traditional public education. The University was one of the few research universities in the 90-ies and implemented the principle of mixed participation in the governance of the University.

The University is on a private basis without state guardianship. He became the only educational institution included in the top 100 European centers of political science at the London school of Economics.

In the summer of 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to support European University in the further development.

Not the first victim

European University in Saint-Petersburg is not the only school who was disbarred by decision of the service. The HAZE has also faced problems as a result of actions of the Federal service. At the request of Rosobrnadzor was denied accreditation for the specialty “Economy and management” and “Service and tourism”. Students these areas promised to provide translations in other universities in the same specialty according to the statement. The situation was complicated by the lack of special faculties in the direction of “Service and tourism” at other institutions.

Many students was displeased the sudden decision of the service. They argued that the leadership of the University announced on the withdrawal of accreditation in advance. In addition, students were concerned about the possible loss of the diploma and forced conscription.

Expert’s opinion

Rector of the European University Oleg Kharkhordin in an interview with “Kommersant”:

“We do not understand why a routine situation check of the service was extraordinary. We think that it is necessary to return back to its normal boring state.”

Assassin’s Creed, the long-awaited and criticized

На российском экране – картина «Кредо убийцы» Джастина Курзеля, снятая по одноименной серии игр

[epapop id=’3958′]

Plot

Male gaze

кино2

The film Assasin’s Creed revolves around the conflict between the Assassins and Templars. Two groups pursuing certain goals, trying to get their hands on the Apple of Eden, an artifact of divine origin, which gives the owner superhuman strength. It was the pursuit of him is at the center of the narrative and becomes the main motivation of the characters in the film: the Assassins are trying to protect Apple, while the Templars use it for their own purposes. The outcome of this chase depends the fate of humanity, so Callum Lynch – the protagonist of the film – to find his place in the world and lead the chosen way to success.

Female perspective
Speaking in plain language, this film tells the story of a murderer Callum Lynch, whom brought in the so-called “rehabilitation center” in Madrid. There it is connected to the “Animus”, the special apparatus, which allows to enter the regression and take the place of his ancestor who lived 500 years ago. Dr. Sophia Raylin and her father sent Callum in the past, that he found the Apple of Eden with which it is possible “to heal the world from violence.” The goal looks good, but the movie was too “muddy”.

Acting

Male gaze

кино1

The very arrangement of the film not too conducive to the manifestation of talent – most of the time the actors enough to maintain equanimity in the frame. And with that, I must say, they do perfectly. However, Michael Fassbender perfectly shows the audience the inner world of the protagonist, caught between two fires, and trying to find his way in the world of Assassins and Templars. Marion Cotillard, the female leading role, also managed to reveal his character – Sofia Raylin – we do not understand on which side will eventually face the employee of Abstergo industries.

Female perspective
I was very disappointed with the game’s main character Sofia. After a sensual drama “Allies” of the end of 2016, the year in which Marion Cotillard sincerely recited all of the dialogue and showed the tenderness, passion and despair of the French scout, her role in “Assassin’s Creed” was not crowned with the same success. In the new action she seemed emotionless throughout the film. As for me, it is better to criticize the actor, what not to say about his performance in the movie nothing. That Michael Fassbender does not surprise me and did not show his acting talent unlike the little actor Angus brown, who played Callum Lynch in the childhood.

Photography

Male gaze

The film is filled with action in the form of action scenes: the characters constantly fight, break away from the shackles or run – on dialogues almost no time. This, however, the movie does not harm – most of the filming produced at the highest level, although sometimes computer graphics visible to the naked eye. It should be noted that transitions between the two times of the film – 1492 the year and the present – which is never a surprise to the viewer, so it does not have to spend a lot of time thinking about what he saw.

Female perspective
How producers and Directors present to the past, where is Callum, namely Andalusia in 1492, the year, is truly mesmerizing. In the film there are beautiful nature photographs, for example, mountain ranges with a bird’s flight, ancient palaces, and the ancient city. Unfortunately, almost two-hour film, they occupy only a small part. But ¾ of the time is shooting battles, where flying dust, causing the faces of the actors become indistinguishable, and instead of the normal dialogue is heard only screams.

Main idea

Male gaze

The conflict between Assassins and Templars – not so much a gang war, as the opposition ideologies. The film shows how important for any person free will, even if it leads to the wrong action. It is no coincidence that it is related to the Apple of Eden, which Adam and eve were expelled from Paradise. This is the first manifestation of man’s free will is not mentioned directly in the film, but to see it for the metaphor it is easy. Thus the “overly aggressive” Assassins become the embodiment of freedom, and their famous motto – “Nothing is true, everything is permitted” – another proof.

Female perspective
In my opinion, the main idea of this picture is that if your ancestor was a criminal or a murderer, and you will be prone to violence. From such a fate is possible to save the people, if you go into the past and change fate. I agree, it sounds non-trivial and very strong. Only now this idea is very poorly implemented in the movie. It completely “slaughtered” a sword that even after viewing the film remains ringing in the ears.

Overall impression

Male gaze
I as a fan of the game series Assasin’s Creed movie seemed very decent. It was nice to plunge into the atmosphere of confrontation between the Brotherhood and the Order, once again remember the story of Desmond miles and hear memorized by heart the Oath. The plot did not seem so confusing, how he tried to imagine the critics, and the abundance of action scenes I would rather attributed to the merits of the film.

Female perspective
Ladies, if you are fans of the game “Assassin’s Creed” or fighters, then don’t waste your time and money on “assassin’s Creed”. First, there’s a lot of unknown for you words. Second, love the lines of the speech did not go. Finally, any emotion he did not have a cause, believe me, neither to cry nor to laugh, even frightened for no reason.

What has «Progress» come to?

Грузовой космический корабль развалился над Тувой

Reading time 6 minutes

[responsivevoice_button voice=”US English Male” buttontext=”Listen the text”]

What happened?

On the 1st of December in the evening Russian space Agency reported about the problems with Progress MC-04 cargo vessel which had been launched from Baikonur to the International space station. The space vehicle docking with the ISS was scheduled for December 3rd. It turned out that Progress had been destroyed over the Republic of Tyva. Roscosmos reports that most of the fragments had burned in the dense atmosphere. Unburned fragments had fallen near the town of Kyzyl, which is the capital of the Republic.

What was the spacecraft to deliver?

The ship was supposed to deliver to the crew about 2.5 tonnes of cargo: fuel, water, food, medical supplies and scientific equipment. On board there were 705 kg of propellant, 50 kg of oxygen, 420 kg of water and about 1,200 kg of food and other things essential for life in space. Apart from this, the vessel was carrying a new spacesuit produced in Russia, fresh fruit for the Christmas table, the system for water and urine recovery for the Russian module and also a new greenhouse for the cultivation of various crops.

Why did “Progress” crash?

As one of the versions of the falling of the Progress MC-04 space vessel can be considered negligence in the manufacture of the third stage of Soyuz-U carrier rocket , RIA Novosti reports, with a reference to a source in the space industry.

In its turn TASS with a reference to its source reports that the state Commission investigating the crash of Progress MC-04 space vessel considers the RD-0110 engine burnout of the third stage of SoyuzU carrier rocket to be the basic version of the incident . According to the source, this could be caused by foreign particles getting into the engine or poor assembly of the engine. These are versions and the true reason of the accident is unlikely to be identified due to the lack of necessary telemetry data and the wreckage of the rocket, TASS source said.

If identification of the reasons is delayed, the launch of the Russian space vessel Progress scheduled for February 2, 2017 may be postponed, reports TASS referring to an informed source. According to it, the investigation can last for several months.

Are the fallen fragments dangerous?

Evgeny Parfenov, a leading engineer of the Department of gravitational astronomy and astrometry of the Research Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics at Tomsk state University says that the falling debris do not pose a threat to the ecological status of the area, as reported TASS. . The expert pointed out that the space vessel had been lost, not the booster. It “had long been separated and was flying by itself.” So there was not a large amount of fuel in it, only the cargot. “The rest most likely won’t fall down. There is nothing toxic in it.

Also the interlocutor of RIA Novosti noted that the area of the fallen debris was sparsely populated, the area was mountain-woody; in this regard there were no complaints about the destruction or casualties. However, the Siberian regional emergency center was tasked to monitor the situation.

What will happen to the ISS?

It’s all right. Roskosmos said that the loss of the cargo ship will not affect the usual operations of the ISS and the life of members of the crew. NASA holds the same opinion. Commonly, the station crew has enough food and everything necessary to safely live for three months if the delivery fails.

“Our astronauts and the Russian astronauts are safe aboard the station. Resources aboard the station are at a sufficient level,” as says in a NASA blog. NASA also noted that the lost goods can be replaced by a Japanese cargo spacecraft HTV-6 starting to the 9th of Dec to the ISS.

Did it happen with Progress before?

The previous accident occurred during the launch of Progress on 28th of April 2015. Then the ship ceased to transmit telemetry and moved to the uncontrolled rotation. On the 8th of May uncontrollably de-orbited and burned in the dense atmosphere, fragments of the ship falling into the Pacific Ocean.

The reason for the accident was abnormal separation of the third stage of the carrier rocket and spacecraft. Defective assembly of RD-0110 was the cause of the fall of Progress M- 12M in August 2011. It was the first crash of Progress. The reason was the blockage of fuel feed line. This manufacturing defect was declared accidental.

On 25th of June 1997 while the redocking of Progress M-34 it crashed into Spektr module of Mir space station, which led to damage to the solar panels and depressurizing of the module. Progresses in various versions have been flying to the ISS since 2000, they have been launched more than 60 times.

This story is about how ordinary Builder Gary Faulkner decided to dedicate his life to the search and neutralization of Osama bin Laden, one of the most dangerous and wanted terrorists in the world. This will help him God, and to maintain, of course, love.

Plot

Male gaze

The story told in the film, full of conventions and inconsistencies. It is not clear why frankly a mentally ill man calmly walks across America and even freely flying beyond. And where, in fact, he has taken money for entertainment? All this script is silent.

Mission: inappropriateBut colorfully and with humor describes the path of the hero to the elimination of Osama bin Laden: from the first meeting with the customer to complete the adventure “American samurai” in a foreign country.

Female perspective

This film shows the full extent of the world 50-year-old bachelor: a bar where the men are constantly drinking beer, Smoking marijuana and expressions: “I gotta take a piss”, “shitting” and “storchai”. I understand that this image was created on purpose, but to admire it the entire first half of the film unpleasant. In the 45th minute to see this is finally getting interesting. Mission: inappropriatethe First few days of a hero in Pakistan filmed exciting and fun, but after 15 minutes everything again is getting boring.

Actors

Male gaze

In “Mission: Inappropriate” Nicolas cage appears as a typical man, walking around the house in shorts and while brandishing a samurai sword for 0.01$. The described situation is close to us and familiar, left alone at home, the man can afford some liberties. The image of the comic and acting talent of Nicholas allowed him perfectly to grow into the role. To the extent that we sometimes do not know – thanks to the make-up artists.

Female perspective

Believe me, on the poster for “Mission: inadequate” the main actor looks a lot prettier and smarter than most comedies. Greasy hair, carelessly trimmed beard and unkempt appearance – all this describes not only one Gary Faulkner, but almost all actors are male. Is not all the same cage to be scruffy, sitting at the TV screen in shorts and overly anxious.

Humor

Male gaze

As has been repeatedly noted, much of the plot of the movie rests on the comic component from the first frame of the awakening of the hero to the final battle with bin Laden. Take meeting Gary Faulkner with God, which is more like a hippie than the Creator. Or his attempt to swim to Pakistan by boat, and then down to pre-cut the glider from the mountains of Israel. Humor in its various forms accompanies the viewer throughout the film, allowing you to have a good laugh and forget about all the problems – almost cathartic to reach.

Female perspective

The film was absolutely not funny. During the picture, I smiled on the strength of 1-2 times. Well laugh at? Over unemployed by Gary Faulkner, who is obsessed with the desire to catch Osama bin Laden? But he’s sick in the head man, he needs to be treated, if he is constantly imagining a God who still tells him what to do. Over the sweetheart Faulkner, too, “neighing” fail: Marcy Mitchell is raising his niece, confined to a wheelchair, but still works 2 jobs. It can only regret.

Philosophy

Male gaze

However, “Mission: Inadequate” not only to laugh but also thought-provoking. The very appearance of God in the film pushes the conversation about the problems of theology, and the writers did not resist this temptation. They also drew attention to the matter is more mundane – difficulties of human choice born of free will. Gary the whole film is torn between duty to God and personal feelings to Marcy, trying to compromise.

Female perspective

Perhaps the writers wanted to convey some deep thought to the audience, but I didn’t see her. Don’t understand how can you talk about such an important topic as theology, and when the main character, and God himself is depicted in the movie crazy. If to speak about feelings Gary Faulkner to Marcy, so he throughout the film, frankly, beaten her, and only at the very end still bother to choose love.

Overall impression

Male gaze

The male part of the audience, “Mission: Inappropriate” can and should appeal, especially if the spectator will not treat it with excessive seriousness. After all in this Comedy has everything we like: strange character, thatmy obsessions, cute his faithful companion and, of course, adventures in wild and dangerous lands. And who cares if the script is sometimes far from reality, or just strange – a film that “does not interfere, and even exalts it”.Mission: inappropriate

Female perspective

This movie I was not impressed, although I usually like films based on real events. Also do not advise me to show you, ladies, even if you are a fans of Nicolas cage. As for me, this Comedy for “real men”, located on the couch with a beer in hand. The movie is rather repulsive amount of dust and dirt in the literal and figurative senses.Mission: inappropriate

Four Losing Situations

Как Россия может остаться без углеводородных козырей

Reading time 8 minutes
Director of the Center for industrial markets and business strategies ISRE Alexey Berezna presented stress scenarios for the Russian energy on 23 November at the round table at HSE (National Research University Higher School of Economics).

“The collapse in oil prices”

This scenario is being realized in the present moment. The reasons for more than triple collapse in oil prices are the development of shale oil production in the United States and the widespread implementation of energy saving technologies in developed and developing countries. How will these events affect the Russian economy? They will cause increase in the budget deficit, accelerate inflation and will lead to the freezing of large projects and reduce the stability of the leading Russian oil companies.

“Gas abundance”

The scenario presupposes a sharp increase in the supply of gas to the world market. It can be caused by the spread of the shale technologies of gas production, increase gas recovery and development of the inexhaustible resources of methane from gas hydrate deposits. (Gas hydrates are fossil crystalline compounds of water and gas located mainly in the permafrost zone). For Russia such a scenario would mean a loss of its position in the European natural gas market, the drop in its exports and in this regard the loss of a significant part of budget revenues.

“Total decarbonisation”

Cost reduction in technologies of wind and solar power production and transition to mass use of vehicles running on alternative fuels may lead to the implementation of this scenario. “Total decarbonisation” will hit Russian oil and gas exports, and will also lead to dependence on imports of equipment for alternative energy production.

“The hydrogen economy”

The development of this scenario is due to the large-scale implementation of technologies for the production of hydrogen from water or biomass on an industrial scale and at a low cost. In this case, Russia also faces a loss of its position in the global oil and gas markets and will be forced to import equipment to produce hydrogen.

These scenarios are not a sentence. What should be done to resist their development and prevent the possible consequences?

Valentin Parmon, scientific Director of the Institute of catalysis SB RAS

All energy crises were caused by political reasons. Unforeseen political factors have also changed the situation in the energy sector. In the next 20 years the dominant role in the energy sector will belong to fossil fuels. At the same time it is necessary to develop renewable energy sources, plant raw material should be one of the main resources.

Igor Lobovsky, President of the nonprofit partnership “global energy”

The fuel sources will lead position till 40-50ies. Today the agiotage around alternative energy sources is caused not by a real mass transition on their use but by the growth from virtually zero level. The share of clean energy at the moment is approximately 6.2%. We need technological breakthroughs to challenge traditional sources of energy.

The round table at HSE was called Revolutionary Technologies of Clean Energy, yet, it was not so much about the energy technologies of the future but about the obstacles to their development and how to overcome these obstacles.

What is «clean» energy?

Clean energy is produced with renewable sources and it does not pollute the environment. Clean, alternative or green energy can be produced using wind, solar, water (hydropower), the forces of tides, waves, evaporation of water (geothermal energy) and biofuels. Today green energy is rapidly gaining popularity. It shows especially a rapid growth in USA, EU, China and Japan. The governments of these countries are against traditional energy sources, because emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases could lead to climate warming. The main method of dealing with global warming at the moment is the development of nuclear and renewable energy.

What hinders the advance of clean energy?

Researchers from HSE point out three main problems. The first and the key one is the high cost of equipment for energy storage. Solar and wind farms will not be able to receive a big share in the electric power balance if the energy output is unsteady and unpredictable. The second problem is the need to create from scratch an extensive network of fueling and charging stations. Also an obstacle is the resistance from traditional energy companies to smart energy technology, when users throughout one day can not only buy energy, but also to sell it to the network using their own mini-power plants. The managing Director of “ASIA RENEWABLES” William Il Yang Byun identified another problem at the roundtable: according to his words, the investment in green energy is small despite its apparent attractiveness. Advisor of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on climate change Rae Kwon Chung noted that the problem of investments in the alternative energy sector must be addressed by attracting both private and by public investment.
Government policy should be carried out consistently, according to experts, it is very important to steer energy sector by methods of tax regulation.

Russian energy sector has a chance to stay afloat with the help of the active implementation of alternative energy sources. Possible options include hot spring geothermal energy and hot dry rock geothermal energy.

Hot spring geothermal energy

This kind of energy is widely used in Iceland: the hot springs produce 25% of all energy in the country. The share of traditional fuels accounts for only 0.5%. The Icelandic winner of the Global Energy award Thorsteinn Ingi Sigfusson said that his country’s experience can be applied also in Russia. For example, on the Kamchatka Peninsula, energy from hot springs can provide all the needs of the region. According to experts, the development of hot spring geothermal energy in Russia will allow in 15-20 years to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels such as petroleum and its derivatives by almost one third.

Hot dry rock geothermal energy

The temperature rises by about 3 degrees every 100 meters down in the Earth’s interior. To get energy from this source it is possible to drill two deep wells, then to pour cold water in one of them and to get steam on the other. This method of obtaining energy is still in the testing stage but there is evidence of positive results.

Vera Zhitnicka, theater and film actress, now starring in the Chinese TV series the love story of a Soviet speaker and a Chinese girl. The action takes place in the 1960-ies. Faith talks about how differently we approach the filming in Russia and China, but also about his love for Chinese tradition.

— You are used to the main role, but in this series play the role of the sister of the main character. It does not hurt to play a minor character?

— No, absolutely! Of course, better get used to it, but now I am happy and I like what I’m doing here. It is a priceless experience in a completely different cinematic reality, which I was very fascinated. Besides, this is a story about a Chinese girl, so I would not have approached for the lead role.

— How did you get into the project?

The role I got in a strange way. One actress posted on my social network that soon will be samples in the new project for Chinese television. At the audition I was extremely nervous: the Director, cameraman and producer of the series flew to Russia from China to personally select the actors. They had only one day, and contenders insane amount, it was necessary to show their best side, to stand out among all. The three of us got it and we were offered the role, but, frankly, it was very hard.

— Well if you took Chinese colleagues?

— The Chinese are very hospitable and interesting people. We have much to learn from them, for example, they are much more patient and calmer. With them pleasant and easy on the court, because in addition to the Russian partners we have to work with the Chinese, we play in their language, and they on his. It can be difficult, but the team and the other actors are always ready to help, suggest something. In between shooting, we have fun and joke: teach each other our languages, because the Chinese pronunciation of Russian sounds and Vice versa sounds very funny.

— What are the main differences in the production of TV series we have in China?

— The Chinese are very organized and hardworking. They have all done accurately, quickly, at a pre-agreed schedule. They try to shoot one take, so before filming always explain our problem to the max, not to reshoot several times. Of course, sometimes there are some “lost in translation”, but it does not hinders the process.

Very strange that a shooting area ready to shoot just five minutes, so seriously they approach the process. In Russia everything is totally not so, the shooting can reschedule, cancel, change at the last moment, the scene suddenly to rewrite the script for us it’s normal, so at first the Chinese seemed strange accuracy. Now I got used to it and understand how it really facilitates the process. This we clearly should learn from Chinese colleagues.

Yet they have definitely lunch at exactly twelve o’clock, even if not dosnyal scene, everyone needs a break. Also working in parallel, three groups in different places, so the movie they remove just like a rocket.

There is another difference: if we used what we call the shooting schedule almost for several months in advance, so that they can be combined with other surveys, the Chinese would “buy back” actors for the entire period of filming. Therefore, the Chinese actors can’t act more than one project. I personally in this respect, closer to our system — I do not like to sit idle, if you can plan your time.

— Do you like in China?

— Honestly, I was waiting for from China something horrific and completely incomprehensible. Thought I would be in a country where no say in Russian, but English with difficulty. Actually it is not so scary, and to find a common language with the local happened almost immediately. A huge impression on me nature is very diverse, so every city somehow remains in memory. This is my second time in China, the air up here, I already think my family, I even missed him. I think I’ll be back there again and again after the shooting.

— What was the biggest cultural shock you have experienced in China during this time?

— When we arrived it was still quite hot and we tried not to miss the opportunity to visit the beaches. Now, we immediately noticed that swim mostly men, very few women. If they appear, are dressed in diving suits, and almost in the mask on the face, so they cherish white skin. They have very different standards of beauty, and I was very surprised. But in General they are the same people, just with their culture, customs and, of course, excellent cuisine!

— And you would be able to continue his acting career in China?

To move forever? Not exactly plan. I like the local culture, but China is not my home. Still, I love Russia and I prefer to work here, despite all the advantages the Chinese market.

Andrey Loshak: «The journalist should hit where it hurts»

О печальных трендах, документалистике и о том, надо ли идти в профессию, «которой нет»

– What are the major changes you think have occurred in Russian journalism over the past few years?

– All dull. Absolute regression, minimize alternative means in the media. Severe impact – acceleration of the “Lenta.ru”, which was a leading news resource. Cause shareholders to the presidential administration, somehow they are there to bend over, after which they are forced to do such things. On the “Ekho Moskvy” was forward, “TV Rain” is a poor thing, “Novaya Gazeta” in an amazing way… While there is a trend. In a situation when the obvious course is to murder the opposition when it came to extremes, there can’t be another trend. All that will occur against the will of the presidential administration, will be rigidly suppressed.

There are a number of reporters, who continue bravely to do their job, like Lena Kostyuchenko, but in general, and new names arise. Where them to take? Sites not. In connection with the strangulation of independent media lost the competition, the normal situation of market development of journalism, as it were, for example, in the 90s, in the early noughties. Now the meadow is cleared.

What is happening in the public segment, are generally not journalism. Propaganda and journalism are diametrically different things. I feel sorry for the girls and boys that get into it at a young age, because that’s where they break through the knee, and it’s already crippled people.

There are some areas of escapism, where you can escape there and do something that does not concern directly the interests of the state, for example, science or travel. But you have no right to an independent point of view. To me, this story was. I went to the channel “My planet”. There I said the old man, behind the scenes you may have something to do, and show your face we can’t, you have this image in social networks. As said the main Director of the channel: “got game”. I have come to do not about the bloody regime, but about the journey. But it was all over, I “got game”.

Is there any sense to go to study journalism?

– I don’t know how should be a strong inner pull, a sense of mission within the person. It must be very clearly aware that you’re going into a profession that doesn’t exist, and, therefore, to understand that in the next few years interesting work you might not be. May no not be. I’m primarily talking about television journalism, because the biggest impact was on television, where there is no longer anything alive. There is an unfortunate “TV Rain”, but how much he can take people and how many can pay? For a young person, especially if he is not from Moscow, it is a very difficult option. In regions the situation is no better. In general, something comforting to say to me difficult for young people.

– It turns out that it was not necessary to enroll in journalism?

– No, actually, there is a hope called “the Internet” is a great thing that allows you to create startups from scratch. On the Internet you can try, there still is a zone of freedom. Unfortunately, there is no such a kid, who did something besides “Look At Me”, I guess. This hipster-posed a story that has grown into something bigger – to build a serious player on the market. I really miss some of the youth of madness, in a good way. I’m always trying to find some interesting projects. There is “Baten’ka”, “VOS”… This is not enough. To create a web page and learn HTML even I can. It is quite easy kapitaliserede, if you do not immediately begin to expose the bloody regime, of course. The availability of technologies and the opportunities offered by the Internet is cool. Just you young people have not yet realized that it’s fun – not just to post photos to Instagram and write on Facebook, and to unite and create a common creative energy. I told you, not enough strong to some story that I, a forty year old man, was blown away.

– Media platforms that combine a bunch of content formats: text, pictures, video, audio, links, different – good prospects for the future of journalism?

– These are The New York Times and The New Yorker is doing well. But I saw something that could impress me as a new multimedia piece that embodies the different sides, I can’t say. Of course, this phenomenon is worth exploring and may need to do. Not sure about the viability of this genre, but now it is interesting to deal. We might nagrama, and everything will come to a black and white text with images. It has a cyclical form of development. For example, at some point, everything went crazy and started making the “docudrama” with historical reenactments is almost an art movie. Now all of a sudden realized that it was expensive and pointless, and went back to the documentary films based on the classic narration and serious work with archives.

– By the way, about documentary film. Why you started doing it a documentary?

– I’m still not sure that they documentary. No, a couple documentaries, but I still consider myself a reporter. For example, “Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow” – reportage series, but not a documentary. But not a single report – somewhere in the between. Reportage is when you are driving and don’t really understand what will happen next. We in “the Journey” was produced 30 percent of the material. And in the documentary film opposite proportion – 70 percent should already be clear and spelled out a scenario. How carefully we mounted and worked with audiovisual pieces, this film is much more than reportage. We shot on a film camera with the big boys. The report usually shoot with operators who are already tired of everything.

Documentary is very interesting to me, but I don’t quite know how to work with structured reality as it should do the documentary. He first considers the skeleton of the story, and then this skeleton strung reality. I have always had a different approach: I dive into this reality, and then it creates around itself all by herself. It is an unpredictable experience, it is always a trip that will lead nowhere. This is exactly what I would have to recommend the guys who want to make a life.

In one of your texts was the phrase “Moscow is us, and Russia – are they”. Do you think you know you in the regions?

– I Russia is no longer present. Used to be when we went to Prime on NTV, it was clear that are watching everything. I with this in mind, and made history, realizing that I’m telling people something new, what we know here in Moscow. I felt some kind of educational mission.
I have a feeling that there more or less conscious public audience. I think ten percent of the population who is more critical of the reality I know and see. Gets something same “Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow”, beyond the ten percent, I don’t know. The film, of course, more powerful stuff, because it’s not a text column or clever that you should read. I think he broke. The problem, however, is that “TV Rain” cut from the network all of what they have not posted. It is clear that they are trying to make, but they are a little bit clipped in the film wings. And then ceased to remove. If you read the comments on Rutrecker or Youtube, you can see that these are people who are not readers of my Facebook, for example, for whom such a view of Russia was not something important. We have shown the usual Russia. 10 years ago such an idea in my head would not come, because there is nothing interesting, it also says about the degradation of the profession – just to go from Peter to Moscow and just to show how people live on the sidelines…

It all depends on the context. He is alive, especially in Russia, where every 10 years things change for 100 years, nothing has changed. When tell only about how to live in Eastern Ukraine and Crimea, you are going mad. Still the numbers show that the people are satisfied. Now we are going to look at this people, to talk to him. In this context, it’s interesting. The task of the journalist to feel sensitive to the context. This situation, a fair environment, because you’re responding companies. A journalist should always hit where it hurts. This is correct journalism.

– How do you think will change the essence of the profession of journalist in the future and will change it at all?

We see that this is not such a sacred community of know-it-all as before. The Internet and the availability of the camera phone changed the situation. Now everyone can go to shoot something unique, try to break through somewhere and it all publish. You own the media right now. Who is the blogger who is a journalist, did not understand. Is a “shifting” one to the other. Cool, I guess. Just journalist is no longer something exclusive. The request for smart, analytical, investigative journalism exists.

Valery Panyushkin in one of the texts in the “Snob”, speaking about his place in the profession and other journalists used the term “downed pilot”. How do you understand this term?

I don’t like that he and I have recorded in this list. I didn’t read the text, but I’ve got some words. “Downed pilot” is the one who broke. He was hit, the strength to fly anymore. Power I still have, I resist, I have ideas. To do something is always possible, the important thing is that there are people who want me to do something. If you’re doing something interesting, you will always find those who are willing to work with you for the idea.

– In general, are there some ways of development of Russian journalism? Or none?

– There are. Through those media that are created on the Internet. It is not necessary to look for a rich uncle who will give money. If you’re young, you learn, you can already start to create a media great joke this time, which we did not have. We could do some newspaper (laughs), but so with video, photos, texts and more that everyone can see not only your classmates, but in general all…

– It turns out that everything depends on us and we need to resist?

– Absolutely. Burn. Love life. To empathize with human grief.
